Kinder Learning Centre is a licensed childcare agency, which is required by the Ministry of Education to develop and implement a Vulnerable Sector Policy. The Vulnerable Sector Policy is one component used in the hiring process for new employees and volunteers into the childcare facilities.

Procedure

  1. Potential employees and volunteers are notified that a Vulnerable Sector check is a legal requirement before an offer of employment is made.

  2. The potential candidate would then need to obtain a Vulnerable Sector check from their local police headquarters.

  3. In the event of a positive Vulnerable Sector check the candidate will be informed that a positive response does not necessarily preclude employment. Candidates will be informed of our position; we will consider the nature of and circumstances surrounding the charges and convictions. Vulnerable Sector checks are only part of overall hiring procedure.  Our agency only ensures that checks are conducted and that the checks form part of the hiring procedure. All hiring decisions are the complete responsibility of the Director and Supervisor.

  4. When the length of time required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector check exceeds the hire date, the Director, and Supervisor can exercise discretion and make a conditional offer of employment. For instance, if an individual begins work prior to the completion of their Vulnerable Sector check, the individual will always be supervised by a qualifed staff.

  5. When the employee receives the Vulnerable Sector check back from their local Police they are required to submit it to the Supervisor.
